The brand-new Franciscan Health Michigan City hospital received a boost on Friday thanks to two $25,000 gifts from Horizon Bank and NIPSCO. NIPSCO’s gift supports the Dunes Café, which is the hospital’s dining area, while Horizon’s supports the Blessed Maria Theresia Bonzel Community Room. Members of both businesses gathered with Franciscan Health Foundation leadership in that same community room to celebrate the impact of the contributions.

On Thursday, they took a literal approach, demolishing a wall in ceremonial celebration of $1.182 million raised for a complete renovation to the historic club.
Annual Enchanted City Mayor’s Ball Benefits Lubeznik Center for the Arts and Friendship Botanic Gardens
Saturday evening, Mayor Ron Meer of Michigan City hosted the 2019 Enchanted City Mayor’s Ball. Over 650 community members gathered at the Blue Chip Casino for this stellar biannual event, which always benefits local nonprofit organizations. This year, the proceeds went to the Lubeznik Center for the Arts and Friendship Botanic Gardens.
The second annual Diaper Drive by Franciscan Health employees and partners collected 20,000 diapers, distributing them to local organizations and helping more than 1,000 families in Northwest Indiana.
1st Source Bank recently donated $50,000 to support the rehabilitation of the Rees Theatre in downtown Plymouth. The project, which is projected to be completed in 2020, will bring the Theatre up to current code requirements so that the space can be utilized by the community.
