On the third Thursday of each month during the school year, leaders from K-12 schools, colleges across the Region, and workforce development professionals gather at Hobart High School to tackle the tricky topic of preparing students for college and careers. This Thursday, the leaders had a lot to discuss, namely their upcoming annual Summer Institute and how to best meet the state’s new graduation requirements.
Entire worlds live right in our backyards. For the past several months, middle school students have been learning about the different worlds outside of their windows through the Dunes Learning Center’s new Citizen Science program. May 17 saw the culmination of their studies, as the students gathered at the Genesis Center in Gary for the Citizen Science Symposium.
The PTO of Kyle Elementary provided our students and staff with a hot dog lunch in our courtyard to celebrate our reading growth through out the year. Our principal Mr. Sopko, cooked all the hot dogs on his grill.
Community Healthcare System's Stroke & Diabetes Awareness Fair highlights local innovation and healthy living
On Tuesday, nearly 80 booths packed The Center for Visual and Performing Arts for Community Healthcare System’s Stroke and Diabetes Awareness Fair. Participants at the event, sponsored by Community Hospital of Munster and St. Catherine Hospital of East Chicago, enjoyed free screenings that checked blood pressure, pulmonary function, balance, and evaluated stroke risk.
